Rhyl 10km

Today was the first Cancer Research 10km in Rhyl, the weather deceived me as looking out of the window it was nice and sunny but when we got out of the car omg it was that windy I had to hold on to Amelia so she didn't fly away!

We walked to the events area so I could pick up my pack and like a numpty I had forgotten safety pins so nipped to the shops quickly.

I knew it was going to be hard along the seafront in the wind and hoped that we would be heading against the wind to start off with but no we headed towards Prestatyn with the wind behind us.

I had set the GPS training thingy to 10 min miles with the plan to run a steady first 3 miles then pick it up on the last 3 and a bit. I started well and loads of people raced past me and when we got to 2km there were already people walking and one girl had collapsed!

All was going well, I was ahead of the training assistant until we got to 5km and time to turn around and head back - there was no let up from the severe wind and sand blowing in our faces, it was nearly impossible to run and my training plan went slightly astray!.

Got back to the arena and a shabby 1:05:12 for the run - pants!

So that was a baseline recording and hopefully the next race (Wrexham - 6th December 10km) will be slightly less windy.

p.s if anyone needs sand, I have plenty in my trainers :-)

Mission aborted...

.. I'm still ill, cold started to go but feel rotten again - bad sinuses and a cough and headache.

I haven't been out for 2 weeks and with one week left there is no chance I'm going to be able to get round. I'm really gutted but not much else I can do, I'm going to concentrate on the shorter distances and try and improve my times. Snowdon next year with Sorelimbs!

Will be back soon for some good winter training. xx

The countdown to Snowdon

So it's now 12 days until the Snowdonia Marathon, am I ready? Hmm well I've just spent the last week trying to recover from a heavy cold so missed a full 7 days training which hasn't built my confidence up really, I set out to do 20 miles last Sunday but got to 15.5 and had absolutely nothing to give so for the first time I returned home without completing a goal. Knowing now that I wasn't well has made me feel a bit better about it but not ideal to have missed the final few days of longer runs.

This week and next week will be short easy runs to tide me over until Saturday 24th October - and I'll just have to break down the race into stages and deal with whatever I go through.

I've got some energy gels and drink but have had the opportunity to try them yet so will have to at least taste one before the Marathon itself!

I'm looking forward to the day but will be as nervous as hell, will be glad to see my family at the end.
