End of Juneathon

Pushing the Limits July 2009
Well my first Juneathon has been rubbish, I really enjoyed the first few days, then I felt ropey for ages then I've been running again. So in a bid to actual achieve a challenge I joining in with the runningbetty Julyathon which involves doing 100 press ups. Now I know my press ups are pretty poor, OK totally shit so hopefully this will improve my strength somewhat.

I went out for a 4 miler this afternoon, it's still hot but I took some water with me and I actually felt quite good. I did 10 girlie press up but no sit ups coz my belly's full of chicken fried rice!.

So new challenge starts tomorrow, I will bloody do this one.

Mileage this week: 4

Sunday morning plod

I went out at about 0900 this morning to run the 4 miles to the gym and back again, blimey it was already warm and my legs felt heavy right from the start. I just couldn't get into a decent stride and although I was feeling fine, it was hard going.

Not much else to report as I'm not going to post the terrible stats but at least it's another run in the bag.

I'm not sure if I'll get out tomorrow as I won't have time during the day and it's my dads' birthday so will be visiting him in the evening.

Help wanted.....

Does anyone else experience terrible nerves before going for a run, not only before races but when you're trying out a new distance or just getting out there? I always get really nervous when I'm waiting to run in a small distance race of 5km but sometimes it's before I do my usual runs during the week. The nerves always give me an upset stomach so it makes me feel terrible before I start, any ideas as to how I can reduce this happening. It's not about confidence as I know I can run and I enjoy it so why does it happen?

Anyway this morning I went out for a little 3 miler down to the beach, despite the fact it had been raining all night it was still warm so had to take my waterproof off half way. Not an easy run, I didn't feel very spritely but I'm glad I went. Off to do some sit ups and a press up!

Edit: 50 sit ups and 5 pathetic press ups that probably wouldn't actually pass as a press up.

A little bit of a break...

after feeling ropey for a week I spent the next week still recovering and also trying to get my work up to date before I had a weeks holiday. So it's been a pretty pants few days for exercise.

However I think it has slightly been redeemed by the fact that Sorelimbs and I climbed Snowdon yesterday. We went up the Pyg track and made sure we didn't make the same mistake of climbing Crib Goch again like we did we we first went up 7 years ago! We couldn't walk for the rest of the holiday, not a bad thing for Sorelimbs as he watched the World Cup from the comfort of his bed.
It was quite warm and very busy on the mountain, especially at the top because of all the people that go up on the train. I always wonder at people who are so unprepared for the mountain - girls wearing skimpy t-shirts, blokes with NO shirt on and carrying a rucksack, a woman who was wearing heels (these are people walking, not coming off the train!). I can clearly see why there are so many rescues on Snowdon.

We had a great day, lovely to spend time with hubby and doing something we both enjoy. We picked up the kids a bit late so to make up for it were taking them to Pizza Hut for a treat.

Legs were feeling OK this morning, a bit tired but not too bad. After a morning of the exciting job of cleaning up, Sorelimbs and I went for a little run. We don't often get the chance to run together so it was good to have company. We went down to the beach, then up past Pontins and up the hill back through the top of town. Sorelimbs went off for a bit and I went home making my run 3 miles. I can feel a couple of blisters so need to get some plasters before we do any more running or walking this week.

How great is it to live between the mountains and the sea :-), I love it whether it's raining, sunny or whatever the weather.

Feeling better

Hi all I'm feeling much better this afternoon excluding a trip to the dentist where she took out my filling and another bit of tooth broke off! Very painful :-(

I've managed to do 20 sit-ups and 2 press-ups but will be back for a short run tomorrow.

I've filled out the application forms for me and Sorelimbs to do the Eddie Faure 10km near Rhyl on 21st June, will be nice to do an event with him although he'll soon leave me for dust.

Looking forward to getting my trainers on again.

Can I have time of the Juneathon?

I've had another day off work today as my sinuses have been so painful, I can't run or do anything much - I've just finally done the washing up from yesterday!

So can I have time off the Juneathon on sick grounds, I believe I can self certificate for up to 5 days :-)

Day 7 - Pilates

I needed to rest my weary limbs today so have opted to do a Pilates DVD, I used to go regularly to a great class in Bedford but I just can't go to a scheduled session with the littlies. So the DVD was great, a nice stretch for the muscles and now my back is getting better I am not so bad at keeping those core muscles working well.

A good end to a productive week.

I feel I can now call myself a runner....

Today I decided that I would attempt a slow longer run than usual to start increase my mileage, I thought I'd try to run to Rhyl on the coast road as it wouldn't be as windy as on the beach and it's a fairly flat route also which is perfect for a plod.

The route itself is pretty boring it's just a straight road and goes past the golf course, when you get past the holiday park it's just houses in Rhyl and then there's a cross road - this was my aim for the run and to return obviously.

I felt really good going out, I'm getting much better at slow down my pace for the long runs. I stopped for a couple of minutes at the half way point to have some raisins then started my journey back home. All was fine, I had to go slow as the wind was battering me all the way. At about 4 1/2 miles my legs suddenly felt heavy and jelly like but I carried on and it soon passed.

At about 5 miles I started to feel tired but I was determined to keep plodding as the end was in sight.

I had a big grin on my face when I got home, 6.18 miles - my longest distance since before I had kids.

Tomorrow - Pilates, I don't think I'll be able to do much more!

I'm an ugly runner!

When I run I go red, red legs, red arms and red face you could in fact liken me to an over ripe tomato. So how is it that I see other women running and they look so perfect? I've decided that they are not actually working hard and just pretending to get fit.

Anyway here are my stats from the elusive GPS!

Hill work on the 4th of June

I decided to do hills today which might seem strange since I have at least one hill in every run that I do, but this will hopefully get me up those said hills a bit better. No GPS again as Sorelimbs has nabbed it, doesn't he know I'm more important ;-).

I went up to the top of town and ran up one road for 5 reps, it's a steady gradient but at the top bends round and has a wicked incline to finish. Hard but good fun, had to avoid a serious looking black dog on the way!

Back home I did 45 sit-ups and the mandatory 2 press-ups.

Feeling good x

Jour trois

I haven't managed to get out for a run today as last appointment took ages and had a visit to parents, but I've made sure I have walked as much as possible.

I have however done 45 sit-ups and 2, yes 2 whole press-ups. I am very bad at these as you can tell so need to improve my upper body strength, any suggestions most welcome.

Guess what? Day 2!

Have had to go running at lunch time as working this evening for a while, no GPS but I think the route was about 3 1/2 miles. Very hot and sweaty now off to get changed :-)

Day 1 - a good start

My first run of the Juneathon was great but now I'm a bit disappointed about yesterday.

Today is also the first day of my new goal but unfortunately I can't tell you about it until I get some good training behind me!

So I decided to stop messing about with 3 milers and go for a nice 4 mile route out of town and back again, I kept a steady pace and had a bottle of water with me so I just kept going. A really lovely run on a summers evening, but now I know I could have run better yesterday if I had some water with me.

Anyway move on Ev....a good start!

Race for Life

Hi all Well I had a good run yesterday and managed a respectable 27:40, but I think I could have done better if I had taken some water round with me.

The course is lovely because it is all flat and goes along the beach at Rhyl, I remember from last time that the half way point is further than you realise so I wanted to take it easy until I could there. I started with the joggers because I couldn't get to the front but I think this helped me to take it easy and just get a reasonable pace going. I steadily picked off the people in front of me that had gone off too quickly in their excitement.

I felt comfortable but it was very hot, by the time I got to the half way point I was suffering I asked a fellow runner for a sip of water which she kindly let me have but I was still flaking. I tried to keep a steady pace and when I almost got back I found an area of shade so ran there.

When you get back to the arena you get the urge to finish so I crossed the line at a good speed, stupidly I looked at the clock and thought I'd done really pants but I had forgotten that it took me a while to get past the start!

A good run, but could still do better if I was better prepared with fluids.

Thanks for the sponsorship and support, a good cause benefits which is the main thing.

BRING ON THE JUNEATHON!
