Help wanted.....

Does anyone else experience terrible nerves before going for a run, not only before races but when you're trying out a new distance or just getting out there? I always get really nervous when I'm waiting to run in a small distance race of 5km but sometimes it's before I do my usual runs during the week. The nerves always give me an upset stomach so it makes me feel terrible before I start, any ideas as to how I can reduce this happening. It's not about confidence as I know I can run and I enjoy it so why does it happen?

Anyway this morning I went out for a little 3 miler down to the beach, despite the fact it had been raining all night it was still warm so had to take my waterproof off half way. Not an easy run, I didn't feel very spritely but I'm glad I went. Off to do some sit ups and a press up!

Edit: 50 sit ups and 5 pathetic press ups that probably wouldn't actually pass as a press up.

Could I post this as a guest blog on my blog? Alot of my clients would benefit from reading it?

I really enjoyed reading this too and I`m impressed with your training. For what its worth you may just be experiencing the affects of adrenaline, so a mixture of excitement about doing something you enjoy and fear about reaching a sticky point in your run when it all starts to hurt and you start thinking about lunch! This happens to me alot and I have to battle to keep going. Experts tell me that the nerves are connected to how we perceive ourselves to be performing, am I a good runner or a bad one? I was advised to stop thinking thoughts along those lines and accept totally that whilst ever we are out and about running.. we are being a runner regardless of time, distance, speed or wobbly bits. It helped me stop stressing about my running performance.

Hey this is cool Eva, well done on your progress.

Have you thought about womens press ups until you find them too easy?

Thanks Rachel, you can definately share on your blog the more help the better! I can see that the nerves when starting a race are about not wanting to look like a muppet and come last, I just don't know why it happens the rest of the time because I'm fine once I get out.

Womens press-ups, I'll have to just do those because I certainly can't do proper ones! Thanks.
